Junior and Senior infants had lots of fun learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly recently. There was great excitement when our baby caterpillars arrived from Insectlore.co.uk. The children were captivated watching the caterpillars grow and they were even more captivated when the caterpillars made their chrysalides. It was like Christmas morning when the butterflies emerged from their chrysalides. The children couldn't wait to watch them feeding on the flowers and fruit they had placed in the butterfly tents. They learned that the butterfly eats using its long proboscis. The class named the butterflies Rose, Lily, Daisy, Ella, Simona, Daffodil, Fairy and Petal. Eventually the day came where we had to say goodbye to the butterflies and release them. Luckily we have some lovely flowers growing in the garden so we put the butterflies on the flowers. The butterflies happily fed for a while before they flew off much to our excitement!
