On Friday the 12th of November, 5th and 6th Class took part in the Go Blue Your Way Campaign, we had lots of fun and raised €120. Well done to Ms.Barry for organising the event. Did you know it's 100 years since the discovery of insulin!
Science Week 2021 in 5th and 6th Class. We watched some really cool videos from Science Foundation Ireland and learned lots about animation! Also took part in some science workshops and learned really interesting facts about giraffes down in Fota Wildlife and elephants in Dublin Zoo. We had lots of fun participating in Science Week this year. We explored the importance of washing our hands with soap and water as we observed what happens to bread when touched by washed hands, sanitised hands and dirty hands. We watched diet coke erupt when we added mentos to it, we watched gummy bears grow when they were left in water overnight and we discovered what drinks do to our teeth by observing the egg shells in water, milk and coke. The highlight of our week was our lava lamps which taught us that oil and water do not mix. We turned off the lights and watched them glow in the dark! 1. We discovered what happens when oil and water is mixed together during our lava lamp experiment. We added a fizzing tablet and watched as bubbles began to appear just like a lava lamp. The flash light created a true lava lamp effect! 2. We grew our own gummy bears by soaking them in water overnight. We then compared how much they grew the next day. 3. On Friday, we tuned into a zoom event organised by Teagasc and learned some cool facts about cows, milk and grass! We even got some of our questions answered by the scientists who were involved in the event. We finished our science week off with an Art for Kids hub video, creating our very own cartoon cows! Junior and senior infants loved learning about the hospital and the people who work there last week. The role play area was a real hit as they took turns being the receptionist, nurse, patient and doctor. They also loved playing 'Operation' at the funky fingers table this week to help develop their fine motor skills. They were also learning about writing Get Well Soon cards.
