Active Home Week (April 27th – May 3rd)
National ‘Active SCHOOL Week’ takes place every April and is a really enjoyable part of the school year for many children.
This year, because of COVID-19, it is not possible for this to go ahead so we are inviting the families of our school to participate in the ‘Active HOME Week‘ challenge instead.

Partnerships
A special day... Last week we wore our club colours and welcomed back past pupils of Lisronagh NS who brought the U16 U19 U21 and Junior County Cups representing Moyle Rovers our local GAA Club. Such wonderful role models for our younger players. Special thanks to the girls and Declan Browne for the visit. 🏆
Congratulations to Séamus Callanan and the Tipperary senior hurling team on winning the All Ireland recently. We were very lucky to have Séamus visit our school on October 7th with the Liam McCarthy cup!!!!!! This was Séamus' second visit to our school. He was also good enough to visit us last year as part of our Active School initiative. Séamus gave an inspiring talk to the pupils, answered their questions and signed lots of jerseys and hurleys!
Huge thanks to Tipperary hurler Seamus Callanan for visiting Lisronagh, chatting to the kids about being active, eating healthily and teaching them some new hurling skills. We were delighted to hear that since Seamus' visit he has been made captain of the Tipperary Senior Hurling team. Well done Seamus! (Visit in Spring 2019)

Liam Clohessy from the PDST came to our school on the 27th of February, 2020. Liam took the classes for PE on that day and did some outdoor and adventure activities with the children. The children thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and the teachers also gained some new ideas in that particular strand area.

Run Around Europe Challenge
In Lisronagh National School, we have recently started our Run Around Europe Challenge. Each class has chosen a city in Europe to run to. It is an excellent initiative that keeps the children active. We encourage every child to take part. The middle and senior classes run laps of the school and the infant classroom run laps of the yard. Each lap equals one kilometre. So if 24 children run a lap that equals 24 kilometres! So far the infant classroom has run 230km. First and second classes have run 312km. Third and fourth classes have run 312km and fifth and sixth have run 233km.
Wake up and shake up.
The children in Lisronagh are enjoying our 'wake up and shake up' activities every morning.
Sponsored Walk
Well done to our Parents Association for organising a sponsored walk at Powerstown Park recently. Thanks to everyone who generously supported the fundraiser and well done to all the participants who took part on the day, there was a great turnout.

Games:
Below you can see some photos of the students in various classes learning different skills under the strand of Games e.g. rolling the ball, catching and throwing, travelling with a ball, striking a ball, kicking a ball. These are skills that are transferable across many different types of games e.g. basketball, football, hockey, playground games, hurling, soccer, tennis, rounders etc.
Gymnastics:
The Junior and Senior Infants had fun creating their own sequences and trails in gymnastics. They also loved making 'Mirror shapes' in pairs.
Outdoor and Adventure:
The Easter Egg hunt: The Easter Bunny came to Lisronagh NS and hid some eggs for our excited junior classes to find. They had to follow a series of clues, each clue had a special letter on the back and at the end they had to make a word with all the letters they found. Can you guess what the word was?
Athletics
Dance
The children learn a variety of different dances during the year. Creative dance is always very popular with the children. We use dance as transition activities in class also. Pop see ko from Go Noodle is a firm favourite. For Halloween this year the classes also learned the Ghostbusters and Monster Mash dances. Fifth and sixth class worked in groups to perform their own version of Thriller. During Seachtain na Gaeilge the children learn some traditional Irish dances like The Siege of Ennis.
