Junior and Senior Infants completed a butterfly project in school recently. Mrs.O Brien ordered painted lady caterpillars from insectlore.co.uk. There was great excitement when the caterpillars arrived. They were tiny at first. However as the caterpillars ate their food they continued to grow and grow. It was not long until they made their chrysalides. Then we moved the chrysalides from their containers to our butterfly tents. After a few weeks of patiently waiting our first butterfly emerged. After a few days of waiting for all the butterflies to emerge we released all 9 out in the school garden. It was wonderful to watch first hand the different stages of the butterfly life cycle.
